🐠 Tank Buddy — Privacy Policy

Tank Buddy ("the app", "we", "us") helps you track and care for your aquariums. This policy explains what we collect, why, and your choices. We keep it simple: we only collect what the app needs to work, and we never sell your data or use it for advertising.

Who we are

Information we collect

Account information. When you create an account, we collect your email address and a securely hashed password. If you sign in with Google or Apple instead, we receive the email address associated with that sign-in (Apple may provide a private relay email if you choose "Hide My Email").
Your aquarium data. The content you create in the app — tanks, fish, plants, water-test and water-change logs, calendar events, maintenance schedules/reminders, stocking plans, and notes.
Progress photos. Photos you choose to add to a tank. These are stored in your own private, access-controlled folder in our cloud storage; a copy may also remain on your device.
A user identifier. An account ID used to associate your data with your account and keep it private to you.

We do not collect location data, contacts, advertising identifiers, or usage-tracking analytics, and the app contains no third-party ads or trackers.

How we use your information

To provide the core features of the app — storing your aquarium data and syncing it across your devices.
To authenticate you and keep your account secure.
To send you on-device reminders (maintenance/photo schedules). These are scheduled locally on your device — we do not run a push-notification server.

How your data is stored and synced

Your data is stored locally on your device and synced to our backend provider, Supabase, so you can access it across devices and recover it if you reinstall. Each user's data is isolated with per-user access controls (row-level security), and photos are kept in a private per-user storage folder. Data is transmitted over encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS).

Third-party services

Supabase — authentication, database, and file storage (our backend). See Supabase's privacy policy.
Google / Apple Sign-In — only if you choose to sign in with them, to authenticate you.

We do not share, rent, or sell your personal data to third parties for marketing.

Data retention & deletion

We keep your data for as long as your account exists. You can delete your account at any time from within the app (the "Delete account" control). Deleting your account permanently removes your account and all associated aquarium data and photos from our backend. This action cannot be undone.

Children's privacy

Tank Buddy is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

Your rights

You can access and edit your data directly in the app, and delete all of it by deleting your account. If you have questions or requests regarding your personal data, email us at devyncarr@gmail.com.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the "Last updated" date above.
